I've been meaning to write an article titled “Design Karaoke” which would make the case for using a trained, experienced designer if you want your work to look professional. However, I have yet to draft a version that hasn't morphed into a “Holmes on Homes”-style rant.

Every so often I get asked to protect photos from being copied from someone's site.

some recent work

Jan Cunningham

Design: Jack Design. Development: Smartpill. Running on Craft CMS. Responsive site built with Foundation 5 Framework.

Connecticut Trust for Historic Preservation

Another collaboration with Jack Design. We did all structural coding (html/css/javascript), CMS integration as well as replaced their previous CMS with ExpressionEngine. This was also set up to allow CTTrust to integrate a number of their other sites into ExpressionEngine to control the content from one central system. Many thanks to Mike Morris from RecDesk for all the database and server transition wizardry.

Pirie Associates

Designed (with some branding assistance from Laini Leto) and coded a clean one-page site for the recently renamed architectural firm.

Complete renovation of a site for the health-insurance admin company. Designed and coded by smartpill design.

Neighborhood Music School

Design: AH Design. Development: Smartpill. Running on ExpressionEngine.

Gray Organschi

Another collaboration with AH Design. Development by Smartpill. Running on ExpressionEngine. Showcase for world-class architectural firm featuring galleries of their work.

Edward Stanley Engineers

Design: AH Design. Development: Smartpill. Running on ExpressionEngine.

New Haven Independent

All design and development. Originally built on Movable Type 3 (Sept. 2005). Switched to ExpressionEngine mid January 2010 with added functionality and some design changes.

The Chubb Fellowship

Small ExpressionEngine-driven site for The Chubb Fellowship at Yale University. Designed by AH Design, built by smartpill.

James Velvet

Design and development for musician and radio personality James Velvet. Conversion from Movable Type to ExpressionEngine (02/09).

Valley Independent Sentinel

New hyper-local news site for the Naugatuck Valley area.

New Haven Preservation Trust

A collaboration with designer Jenny Chan of Jack Design (layout). We did all structure coding (xhtml, css) and scripting as well as set it up with ExpressionEngine to give NHPT control over the content. Check out the great photos in the Historic District galleries.

Greater New Haven Events Calendar

A self-serve events calendar with built in form-based entry. Detail pages include driving directions and file attachment. Other features and design enhancements to come. Also built with ExpressionEngine.

CT News Junkie

Converted site to Movable Type eliminating the spam plague and adding new features. Original layout has been refined and added a rotating ad column, recent comments, pagination and image captions. 12/2009: Converted site to ExpressionEngine with some layout changes and added features.
