So what have I been up to since March? Short answer, mainly adding additional functionality to existing sites as well as some web and print design. Read on. New Junk Since taking over development of CTNewsJunkie back in late 2005, I’d added functionality, migrated them to a new content management system twice, switched site hosts a couple of times and recoded the pages — but hadn’t done much as far as design. Up to that point their only work with me had been coding-related. Then the idea for CTTechJunkie came up. I didn’t think the original sorta folk-arty CTNewsJunkie “duct-tape-and-spaghetti-ransom-note” masthead (as I affectionately refer to it) would convey “Tech” but we did want to create a sense of continuity with the existing look. I think the solution maintains the personality of CTNJ and allows for future variations. Facebook-binding The Valley Independent Sentinel staff had been asking for a way to use facebook for visitors to log in to comment on their stories. After a few months of exploring options and a week or so of testing, the Valley Indy now has a simple way for readers with a facebook account to log in, while the staff retains control over the actual comment content. A nod to Solspace for the software and supporting all of our “complications” along the way! Paper? What is this “paper” of which you speak? Designed an actual printed brochure, some business cards and am now working on a new website for a Health Care related client. More when the site is live…
